    Event Description:
Each year, the quaint community of Hoisington, Kansas attracts thousands of visitors to take part in the annual Labor Day Celebration. Many of these visitors are Hoisington natives who return to the area to share in the festivities and make new memories. As such, the 118th Annual weekend has been appropriately themed "Home Grown, Home Town, Hoisington."

The four-day weekend will begin Thursday, August 28th with the Kans for Kids Benefit Concert at 7 p.m. featuring organist Craig Jaynes at the St. John's Catholic Church.

Friday, the USD 431 Come-And-Go Golf Tournament will take place at Lake Barton Golf Course during the day, followed by the Community BBQ & Beer Garden at 5 p.m. under the water tower at the Activity Center. The evening will continue with the Lewellen Carnival in downtown and the Roto-Mix Roundup featuring Josh Thompson and Codie Prevost in the Activity Center.

Saturday events include a BBQ cookoff, community garage sale and sidewalk sale, turtle races, baby contest, princess pageant, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, horseshoe tournament, carnival rides, and a firework show to top it all off.

Sunday events will begin with the Clara Barton Hospital open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the Demolition Derby in Bicentennial Park at 1 p.m. The carnival will re-open at 6 p.m. and the Street Dance featuring Homebrew will begin at 8 p.m.

On Labor Day, things start early with the 5k Run/Walk at the Activity Center. The flea market opens in the City Auditorium at 8 a.m., just before parade floats are judged. The children's parade will take place at 10:10 a.m. as a warm-up for the 118th Annual Labor Day Parade down main street at 10:30 a.m. Following the parade, carnival games will open once again, and a car show will take place in downtown at noon. Stop by the HHS Alumni Association Open House at the Legion at 11:30 a.m. before taking part in the Beer Identification Contest at the Knights Hall at 2 p.m.

All three days, spectators can take a helicopter ride to see the festival from overhead. Helicopters take off and land on the west side of Highway 281, just south of the railroad tracks. Hours vary. For more information or to see a complete schedule of events or individual activity posters, visit www.hoisingtonkansas.com.
